Implicit, intuitive, and explicit knowledge of abstract regularities in a sound sequence: an event-related brain

The mismatch negativity (MMN) component of auditory event-related potentials (ERPs) reflects implicit knowledge of sound sequences. This implicit knowledge can be utilized for intuitive sound discrimination without conscious awareness, unlike explicit knowledge which elicits the P3 component.
