Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the presence and type of immune components within preretinal membranes in diabetic retinopathy patients.
  • To explore the potential role of autoimmune reactions in the development of these membranes.

Main Methods:

  • Immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase staining techniques were employed.
  • Analysis of eight preretinal membrane specimens from diabetic patients with proliferative retinopathy.
  • Use of monoclonal antibodies to identify immunocompetent cells and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) expression.
