Abstract:
Experts argue that no brain monitoring of clinical value is currently available for the very preterm baby. Evidence is lacking about all parts of the therapeutic package: specificity and sensitivity for severe brain compromise, effectiveness of specific intervention, and overall clinical value over and above standard care. However, brain monitoring will probably be most important ultimately for establishing specific causation between modifiable factors and brain dysfunction or damage.
