Functional performance, not creativity, significantly predicts purpose in life, a key indicator of successful aging in older adults. This study explored creativity enhancement interventions for promoting healthy aging.

Background:

Successful aging is a growing public health concern in the U.S.
Existing research lacks practical guidelines for promoting successful aging.
The Roy Adaptation Model provides a framework for understanding adaptation to declining health.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine the relationships between functional performance, creativity, and successful aging.
To investigate the applicability of the Roy Adaptation Model to successful aging.
To assess the impact of a creativity enhancement intervention on older adults.

Main Methods:

A pretest-posttest experimental design was employed.
The study involved older adults participating in a creativity enhancement program.
Relationships between functional performance, creativity, and successful aging indicators were analyzed.

Main Results:

Functional performance was a significant predictor of purpose in life, an indicator of successful aging.
Creativity was not a significant predictor of successful aging in this study.
The creativity enhancement intervention did not significantly increase creativity or successful aging.

Conclusions:

Functional performance is crucial for maintaining purpose in life among older adults.
While the intervention showed limited direct impact, findings suggest potential for creativity enhancement.
Further research is needed to refine interventions for promoting successful aging.
