  • 28 associate degree nursing students participated.
  • Students created four concept maps across semesters, detailing client needs and nursing care.
  • Concept maps were analyzed for mean scores and the number of cross-links.

Main Results:

  • A steady increase in mean scores and cross-links was observed as students progressed.
  • Increased cross-links indicated improved nonlinear thinking and relationship identification.
  • Concept mapping demonstrated a positive correlation with critical thinking development.

Conclusions:

  • Concept mapping is an effective teaching-learning activity in nursing education.
  • Concept mapping supports the development of critical thinking and nonlinear reasoning.
