Summary

Elevated corneal deposits of keratin and calcium can cause giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC). Debriding these deposits and fitting a contact lens can resolve GPC and aid visual rehabilitation.

Background:

  • Giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC) is an inflammatory condition of the palpebral conjunctiva.
  • Corneal deposits can manifest as foreign bodies or abnormal accumulations.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with central corneal scarring and neovascularization.
  • Elevated corneal deposits composed of keratin and calcium were identified.
  • A concurrent finding was giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC) in the palpebral conjunctiva.

Findings:

  • Debridement of the elevated corneal deposits led to the resolution of the GPC and associated lid reaction.
  • The patient was subsequently fitted with a rigid gas-permeable contact lens for visual rehabilitation.
