Observation:

  • A patient with a history of transient left ventricular apical ballooning presented with new ischemic-like chest pain.
  • The patient exhibited significant dynamic left ventricular intracavitary obstruction during the symptomatic period.

Findings:

  • The dynamic left ventricular intracavitary obstruction was transient and resolved completely.
  • Treatment with beta-blockers led to the disappearance of both the obstruction and the chest pain.

Implications:

  • Beta-blockers may be an effective treatment for dynamic left ventricular intracavitary obstruction associated with chest pain.
  • This case underscores the importance of considering dynamic left ventricular intracavitary obstruction in patients with a history of apical ballooning and new chest pain.
