    Summary

Blepharocele, a rare complication of skull base injury, can occur from orbital rim fractures. Surgical repair of the dura mater led to complete resolution of the blepharocele in this case.

    Traumatic Brain Injury l: Introduction

DefinitionTraumatic brain injury, or TBI, is a disturbance of normal brain function induced by an external mechanical force, such as a direct blow to the head or a penetrating injury. It can affect both brain structure and function, producing a wide range of clinical outcomes. TBI is a heterogeneous condition, meaning its effects may differ based on the type, location, and severity of the injury.Basis of ClassificationTBI is classified based on severity, injury mechanism, or pathophysiology. Area of Science:

    • Neurosurgery
    • Ophthalmology
    • Trauma Surgery

    Background:

    • Blepharocele is an uncommon consequence of skull base trauma.
    • It specifically involves injury to the orbital roof, potentially leading to herniation of orbital contents.

    Observation:

    • A 23-year-old male patient presented with blepharocele.
    • The condition resulted from an orbital rim fracture and a dural tear at the skull base.
    • Crucially, the patient maintained intact vision despite the injury.

    Findings:

    • Surgical intervention focused on repairing the basal dural tear.
    • The blepharocele resolved completely following the surgical repair.
    • Vision was preserved throughout the clinical course.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the successful surgical management of blepharocele.
    • It underscores the importance of addressing dural integrity in orbital roof trauma.
    • Prompt surgical repair can lead to favorable outcomes and prevent vision loss in such rare injuries.
