Summary

Rooster attacks can cause severe eye injuries, especially in young children. A rare case highlights alpha-streptococcal endophthalmitis developing insidiously after such an ocular trauma.

  • Signs of inflammation were absent, suggesting an occult infection.

Findings:

  • Traumatic endophthalmitis and a lenticular abscess were suspected.
  • Surgical intervention included vitrectomy, lensectomy, and intravitreal antibiotics.
  • Cultures revealed alpha-streptococcus, confirming a rare cause of post-traumatic endophthalmitis.

Implications:

  • Alpha-streptococcal endophthalmitis can present subtly after rooster-related eye injuries.
  • Early recognition and management are crucial for visual preservation.
  • This case underscores the need to consider unusual infections in pediatric ocular trauma.
