HLA class II distribution in Congolese with hyperthyroidism: preliminary results

This study identified human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes associated with hyperthyroidism in Congolese patients. Specific HLA-DR and HLA-DQ alleles may confer protection or susceptibility to hyperthyroidism and Graves' exophthalmopathy.

- HLA-DR3, HLA-DR11,13,14, and the DR3/DR11,13,14 haplotype might predispose individuals to hyperthyroidism or Graves' exophthalmopathy.
- Further extensive research is required to validate these preliminary findings.
