Crisis in Japan?

The population of Japan is aging, and hypertension, obesity, diabetes and the metabolic syndrome are common. Though hypertension has been reduced in recent decades, total cholesterol levels have increased to the point that they are no different from those in the United States. The increase in total cholesterol is due to an increase in the share of dietary energy derived from fat. Lifestyle changes such as this are causing a dramatic increase in diabetes in Japan, which is facing a health care crisis.
