Abstract:
Rotavirus (RV) infection is an important cause of morbidity all over the world. In industrialised countries the mortality is low, but the sanitary and social burden of the disease is important. Two safe and effective vaccines are available: Rotarix, live attenuated monovalent human derived vaccine, and RotaTeq, live attenuated pentavalent human-bovine reassortant vaccine. In USA, ACIP recently recommended anti RV vaccination to all children. In Europe both vaccines have been approved by EMEA. In Italy no official recommendation has been yet prepared.
