Drugs that Stabilize Microtubules

Microtubules are dynamic structures that undergo cycles of catastrophe and rescue. The microtubules play a central role in cell division by forming the spindle apparatus for segregating the chromosomes. This makes them ideal targets for regulating dividing cells in tumors and malignant cancer cells. Summary

Three new triterpenoids were identified from Potentilla multicaulis roots. One compound showed moderate cytotoxic activity against human promyelocytic leukemia (HL-60) cells, indicating potential therapeutic applications.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To isolate and characterize new triterpenoids from Potentilla multicaulis.
  • To evaluate the cytotoxic activity of isolated compounds.

Main Methods:

  • Isolation of compounds using chromatographic techniques.
  • Structure elucidation via spectroscopic methods (IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D- and 2D-NMR).
  • Cytotoxicity assay against human promyelocytic leukemia (HL-60) cells.

  • Three new triterpenoids were identified: 19-hydroxy-2,3-secours-12-ene-2,3,28-trioic acid 3- methyl ester (1), 19-hydroxy-1-oxo-2-nor-2,3-secours-12-ene-3,28-dioic acid (2), and (3beta,18alpha,19alpha)-3,28-dihydroxy-20,28-epoxyursan-24-oic acid (3).
  • Compound 2 exhibited moderate cytotoxic activity against HL-60 cells.

  • Compound 2 demonstrates potential as an anti-leukemic agent.
