Background:

  • Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) can manifest in the small bowel, presenting diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
  • Small bowel lymphomas are rare but can lead to critical complications such as perforation.

Observation:

  • Four patients with small bowel NHL were analyzed, with three being male.
  • Presentations included acute abdomen due to perforation (2 patients) and abdominal mass effects (2 patients).
  • Tumor locations varied across the ileum, jejunum, and jejunoileum.

Findings:

  • All patients underwent surgical resection of the affected small bowel segment.
  • Histological subtypes included three large B-cell lymphomas and one T-cell lymphoma associated with celiac disease.
  • Treatment involved diverse chemotherapy regimens, with one T-cell lymphoma patient experiencing disease progression and mortality.

Implications:

  • Surgical resection is a primary treatment modality for small bowel lymphoma.
  • Chemotherapy regimens should be individualized based on lymphoma subtype and patient factors.
  • Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial for improving outcomes in small bowel lymphoma.
