Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Rehabilitation Medicine
  • Digital Health

Background:

  • Stroke frequently results in cognitive impairments, with deficits varying based on injury location.
  • Clinical evidence supports the efficacy and safety of targeted cognitive training for post-stroke cognitive disturbances.
  • Traditional outpatient rehabilitation may present accessibility challenges for some stroke survivors.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To design and implement an internet-based tele-therapy system for cognitive rehabilitation.
  • To provide stroke patients with cognitive impairment a convenient home-based therapy solution.
  • To enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of cognitive training through digital technology.

Main Methods:

  • Development of a computer-assisted cognitive training system (CACT).

Related Experiment Videos

  • Integration of CACT into a tele-therapy web platform for remote access.
  • Implementation of a system for managing training records and user access via the internet.
  • Main Results:

    • A functional tele-therapy system was successfully designed and implemented.
    • The system enables remote delivery of cognitive training for stroke patients.
    • The platform facilitates management of training progress and patient data.

    Conclusions:

    • Internet-based tele-therapy offers a convenient and potentially more effective alternative to traditional outpatient rehabilitation for stroke-related cognitive impairment.
    • The developed system, comprising CACT and a management web portal, supports home-based cognitive rehabilitation.
    • This approach can improve access to care for individuals with cognitive deficits following a stroke.
