Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Internal Medicine

Background:

  • Clopidogrel is a widely prescribed antiplatelet medication.
  • Overdose reports are exceptionally rare in medical literature.

Observation:

  • A 49-year-old male intentionally ingested 1650 mg of clopidogrel.
  • The patient exhibited abnormal platelet aggregation.
  • Crucially, the patient remained asymptomatic despite the significant overdose.

Findings:

  • High-dose clopidogrel ingestion can lead to impaired platelet aggregation.
  • Asymptomatic presentation is possible even with substantial clopidogrel overdose.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the potential for significant platelet dysfunction following clopidogrel overdose.
  • It suggests a possible threshold for symptomatic toxicity, even at high doses.
  • Further investigation into clopidogrel overdose toxicity is warranted.
