Application of Laparoscopic Hepatectomy Combined with Intraoperative Microwave Ablation in Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastasis

  • Radiofrequency assistance was utilized during laparoscopic liver resections.

    • Eighteen patients underwent successful radiofrequency-assisted laparoscopic liver resection for various liver pathologies.
    • Procedures were performed without vascular clamping, with a mean blood loss of 121 mL and mean operative time of 167 minutes.
    • No perioperative blood transfusions were required; complications included pneumothorax (n=1) and transient liver failure (n=1).
    • Mean hospital stay was 6 days, with no recurrence observed in liver cancer patients at follow-up.

    Conclusions:

    • Radiofrequency-assisted laparoscopic liver resection is a viable option for selected patients.
    • This technique demonstrates potential to reduce intraoperative bleeding and the need for blood transfusions.
    • Further studies are warranted to establish long-term oncological outcomes.
