A note on some microprocesses of identification
1Albert Einstein College of Medicine, USA.
Abstract:
Identification is examined in terms of inferred processes through which it comes about. Three such processes are described, inferred from the intimate mother-infant relationship. They are referred to as (1) the overlay of the mother's organizing characteristics, (2) magnification processes also emanating from the mother (though stimulated by the child), and (3) appeal processes emanating from the infant or child. These identification processes are then set within the broader context of a developmental line running from global, undifferentiated states, through increased differentiation, and culminating in integration of the now-differentiated parts.
