Summary
We developed a high-power Ytterbium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Yb:YAG) thin disk laser. This laser system achieves millijoule pulse energies and 102 W average power at 515 nm, with tunable pulse durations.
Area of Science:
- Laser physics
- Solid-state laser technology
- Nonlinear optics
Background:
- Thin disk laser architecture offers excellent thermal management for high-power operation.
- Intracavity frequency doubling is a common technique for generating shorter wavelengths from solid-state lasers.
- Yb:YAG gain medium is well-suited for high-energy pulsed laser systems.
Purpose of the Study:
- To demonstrate a cavity-dumped Yb:YAG thin disk laser system.
- To achieve millijoule pulse energies at high repetition rates.
- To enable tunable pulse durations for versatile applications.
Main Methods:
- Utilized a cavity-dumped Yb:YAG thin disk laser resonator design.
- Incorporated an intracavity-frequency doubling scheme.
- Optimized laser parameters for high average power and pulse energy.
Main Results:
- Achieved millijoule pulse energies at repetition rates up to 100 kHz.
- Generated a maximum average output power of 102 W at 515 nm.
- Demonstrated tunable pulse durations for the output pulses.
Conclusions:
- The developed laser system provides high-energy, high-repetition-rate green light.
- The tunable pulse duration offers flexibility for various scientific and industrial applications.
- This work advances the capabilities of Yb:YAG thin disk lasers for high-power generation.
