Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of a smoking environment (elevated carbon monoxide) on exercise performance and recovery in healthy males and males with previous myocardial infarction.

Main Methods:

  • 19 non-smoker male volunteers (9 healthy, 10 with prior myocardial infarction) underwent two exercise stress tests.
  • Tests were conducted in both a smoke-free environment and a smoking environment (30-35 ppm CO).
