Background:

  • Ibopamine, an alpha-adrenergic agent, elevates intraocular pressure (IOP) in eyes with increased outflow resistance.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of ibopamine 2% eye drops in detecting early glaucoma in normal-tension glaucoma suspects.
  • To differentiate eyes with normal trabecular outflow capacity from those with increased resistance.

Main Methods:

  • 64 normal-tension glaucoma suspect eyes were tested with ibopamine 2% eye drops.
  • Intraocular pressure was monitored using applanation and contour tonometry before and after instillation.
  • A positive test was defined as an IOP increase greater than 2.0 mmHg.

  • 50% of eyes showed a positive pressure response to ibopamine.
