The association between nocturia, hormonal symptoms and bladder parameters in women: an observational study.

BJOG : an international journal of obstetrics and gynaecology·2021

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Dermatology
  • Hematology

Background:

  • Periorbital xanthogranuloma is an uncommon condition in adults.
  • Eyelid lesions are typically diffuse, yellow plaques, often indicative of systemic disease.

Observation:

  • Three cases of periorbital xanthogranuloma are presented.
  • Lesions were associated with orbital abnormalities affecting globe or eyelid movement.
  • Two cases may represent a necrobiotic xanthogranuloma variant.

Findings:

  • One patient developed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma nine years after xanthogranuloma onset.
  • Systemic chemotherapy for lymphoma led to significant reduction in xanthogranuloma.
  • Periorbital xanthogranuloma can be linked to hematological abnormalities and malignancy.

Implications:

  • Adult periorbital xanthogranuloma necessitates thorough investigation for systemic disease.
  • Regular monitoring is crucial for patients diagnosed with this condition.
  • Early detection and management of associated malignancies are vital.
