Insights
Infant mortality rates were 110.1 per 1000 live births and under-5 mortality rates were 158.6 per 1000 live births in Faisalabad Tehsil. Rural and female infants experienced higher mortality rates.
Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Demography
- Epidemiology
Background:
- Infant and under-5 mortality remain critical public health challenges globally.
- Understanding regional and demographic disparities in child mortality is essential for targeted interventions.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate infant mortality rate (IMR) and under-5 mortality rate (U5MR) in urban and rural Faisalabad Tehsil.
- To identify disparities in IMR and U5MR based on geographic location and sex.
Main Methods:
- A household survey was conducted in Faisalabad Tehsil.
- Data on live births and deaths of infants and children under 5 were collected.
Main Results:
- The overall infant mortality rate (IMR) was 110.1 per 1000 live births.
- The overall under-5 mortality rate (U5MR) was 158.6 per 1000 live births.
- Higher mortality rates were observed in rural areas compared to urban areas, and female infants exhibited higher rates than males.
Conclusions:
- Infant and under-5 mortality rates in Faisalabad Tehsil are significant public health concerns.
- Rural and female populations face disproportionately higher risks, necessitating focused public health strategies.
Abstract:
A household survey was carried out to study infant and under-5 mortality in urban and rural areas of Faisalabad Tehsil. The overall infant mortality rate was 110.1 (per 1000 live births). The under-5 mortality rate was calculated as 158.6 (per 1000 live births). These rates were higher in rural areas than in urban areas. The infant as well as under-5 mortality rates for females were higher than those for males.
