Can prolonged exercise-induced myocardial ischaemia be innocuous?

Intense exercise training, even when inducing myocardial ischaemia, is safe for patients with ischaemic heart disease (IHD). This prolonged exercise did not cause cardiac injury, arrhythmias, or impaired left ventricular function.

- Prolonged exercise sessions (up to 60 minutes) inducing repeated myocardial ischaemia are well-tolerated in IHD patients.
- This type of training does not lead to myocardial injury, significant arrhythmias, or left ventricular dysfunction.
- Intense exercise training may be a safe option for select IHD patients.
