[Effect of extended-release methylphenidate on the ecological executive function for attention deficit hyperactivity

Extended-release methylphenidate improved executive functions in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Improvements in metacognition correlated with reduced inattentive symptoms, but not necessarily all ADHD core symptoms.

- No significant correlation was found between the reduction rate of the inhibition subscale and the overall reduction in ADHD symptoms.
Conclusions:
- Extended-release methylphenidate demonstrates potential in improving ecological executive function in children with ADHD.
- The improvement in specific executive functions, such as inhibition, may not consistently parallel the reduction in core ADHD symptoms.
