    Summary

    A formalin-inactivated murine mammary tumor virus vaccine significantly reduced mammary tumors in mice carrying endogenous virus. The vaccine also protected C57BL mice against a later viral challenge.

    Background:

    • Murine mammary tumor virus (MMTV) is an endogenous retrovirus linked to mammary cancer in mice.
    • Understanding MMTV's role in tumorigenesis is crucial for developing preventative strategies.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of a formalin-inactivated MMTV vaccine in preventing viral expression and mammary tumorigenesis.
    • To assess vaccine protection against MMTV challenge in a mouse model.
