  • To identify obstetric factors associated with the development of PUR.

  • A prospective study involving 605 women undergoing cesarean delivery.
  • Postvoid residual bladder volume (PVRBV) measured via ultrasound after the first micturition.
  • Comparison of patient characteristics and obstetric parameters between PUR and normal groups.

  • The overall incidence of PUR was 24.1% (overt 7.4%, covert 16.7%).
  • Factors significantly linked to PUR included morphine-based postoperative analgesia, multiple pregnancies, and low body mass index.
  • At 3 months postpartum, 5.0% experienced obstructive and 9.1% experienced irritative voiding symptoms.

Conclusions:

  • Postpartum urinary retention is a common occurrence in women after cesarean delivery.
  • Morphine-related postoperative analgesia emerged as the primary factor contributing to PUR.
