ILSI's first international conference on nutrigenomics: opportunities in Asia

ILSI's first international conference on nutrigenomics that was held in Singapore in December 2005 highlighted the tremendous opportunities of nutrigenomics and the fast growing 'omics' sciences in improving human health. A wide array of topics starting with an overview of genomics and its application to nutritional science, to the influence of genetic control and metabolic programming in chronic disease, and to the implications of nutrigenomics to individuals and populations, was discussed in nine plenary sessions. The conference concluded that the future of nutrigenomics in Asia is bright, given strong support in human resource development, logistical resources, and the participation of the private sector. Two post-conference symposia followed, dealing with the use of genomics technology in nutrition research and the application of nutrigenomics in nutritional food science.
