[Aplasia of the inferior vena cava]

Abstract:
A rare case of congenital aplasia of the vena cava inferior in a girl is presented. This condition arose in the presence of marked dilatation of subcutaneous veins of the anterior and lateral surface of the abdomen and restructuring of venous system with formation of cava-caval anastomoses which completely compensated the return of the venous blood from the lower part of the body to the heart.
