Satellite photograph presents first comprehensive view of local wind: the santa ana
Abstract:
The photograph of the 1 January 1973 Santa Ana wind condition reveals local atmospheric dynamics rarely recorded on satellite imagery. The Santa Ana wind implies very specific weather conditions for the Los Angeles coastal lowland. Destructive land uses, in part, provided the material visible in the dust plumes.

Different notations are used to represent the three-dimensional structure of molecules on two-dimensional surfaces. One of the most commonly used representations is the dash-wedge formula. The dashed wedges, solid wedges, and the plane lines indicate the groups situated behind the plane, coming out of the plane, and in the plane, respectively.
The organic molecules rotate across the single bonds leading to numerous temporary three-dimensional structures of varying energy known as conformers.

Momentum And Radiation Pressure
An object absorbing an electromagnetic wave would experience a force in the direction of propagation of the wave. This force occurs because electromagnetic waves contain and transport momentum. The force accounts for the wave's radiation pressure exerted on the object. Maxwell's prediction was confirmed in 1903 by Nichols and Hull by precisely measuring radiation pressures with a torsion balance. The measuring instrument had mirrors suspended from a fiber kept inside a glass container. Nichols...
Coriolis Force
An accelerating particle experiences a force equal to the mass multiplied by the acceleration in an inertial frame of reference. Consider a particle in a non-inertial frame of reference, such as a sliding ball on a rotating table. The acceleration of the ball in this rotating reference frame is different than in the intertial frame, which modifies its equation of motion. The fictitious forces acting additionally on a rotating frame of reference alter Newton's Second Law expression. Centripetal...
Wind Turbine Machine Models
In the growing field of wind energy, incorporating wind turbine models into transient stability analysis is essential. Induction and synchronous machines are the primary models used, with induction machines being prevalent due to their simplicity and reliability.
Induction machines interact through the rotating magnetic field generated by the stator and the rotor. The key parameter is slip, which is the difference between synchronous speed and rotor speed relative to synchronous speed. Slip is...

Introduction to Vector Fields
Vector fields provide a mathematical framework for describing quantities that possess both magnitude and direction at every point in space. Physical phenomena such as wind flow, ocean currents, magnetic forces, and fluid motion can all be represented using vector fields. In meteorology, for example, wind may vary continuously across a geographic region, with both speed and direction changing from one location to another. To visualize this behavior on a two-dimensional map, arrows are placed at...
Surface Integrals of Vector Fields: Flux
Understanding the movement of air masses is fundamental to meteorological analysis and atmospheric modeling. A key component in this process is quantifying the total mass of air that flows into or out of a defined region over a specified period of time. This is achieved by evaluating the mass flux across a boundary surface, a conceptual tool that simplifies the complex dynamics of atmospheric systems. To begin, an imaginary boundary surface S is introduced, enclosing the region of interest. The...
