Background:
Cornelia-de-Lange syndrome is a rare congenital syndrome with poor social relatedness as one of several characteristics of its behavioural phenotype.
Methods:
Video observations were collected from seven children in their first year of life and again with age 2-4 years. Data were analysed for distribution of object-related and social attention and for relationships between early and later observations.
Results:
The findings suggest some inter-individual stability for social relatedness.
Conclusions:
Low frequency of eye-contact in early interaction may serve as a risk factor. Intensive early interaction is recommended in early stimulation programmes.
