Maternal concerns during the early postpartum

The trend toward shortened, postpartum hospitalization has greatly reduced the time available to teach child care and parenting techniques to new mothers. This study surveyed 120, low-risk mothers during the early postpartum period to identify their concerns and learning needs. During home interviews, a card-sort tool and questionnaire were used to gather information. Frequencies for family, mother, and infant items are listed. Participants were worried about family finances, meeting the needs of everyone at home, and being a good mother. They were also interested in learning more about their infant.
