This study found hyperhidrosis, nevi, and atopic dermatitis are common skin conditions in 17-year-old Israeli military recruits. These findings highlight key dermatologic issues in adolescents for health services.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the prevalence of common skin disorders among 17-year-old Israeli military conscripts.
  • To identify gender-specific differences in dermatologic conditions within this population.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of military recruits underwent medical examinations over one year.
  • Dermatology specialists diagnosed and categorized skin conditions.
  • Prevalence data were analyzed, with risk ratios calculated for men and women.

Main Results:

  • Hyperhidrosis, multiple nevi, atopic dermatitis, keratinization disorders (psoriasis), and contact dermatitis were most prevalent.
  • Significant gender differences were observed in hyperhidrosis, contact dermatitis, and collagen diseases.
  • Over 38% of recruits had diagnosed dermatologic conditions.

Conclusions:

  • Major dermatologic problems in adolescents are identified.
  • Findings offer insights for military, employers, and general health services regarding adolescent skin health.
