Abstract:
The renin-angiotensin system plays an important role in the regulation of blood pressure. Recent research in mouse indicates that 1,25(OH)2D interacts with the renin-angiotensin system by decreasing the expression of the gene encoding renin. Thus, an adequate vitamin D level may be important for decreasing the cardiovascular risk associated with a high blood pressure. In this article, the link between vitamin D and the cardiovascular system is discussed in the light of most recent scientific data.
