Summary

Background:

  • Vaginitis is a common gynecological condition often caused by Candida albicans, bacterial vaginosis, or Trichomonas vaginalis.
  • Current treatments exist, but novel therapeutic approaches are continually being investigated for improved efficacy and broader coverage.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the efficacy of a novel vaginal tablet containing clotrimazole and metronidazole (Clo-Met) against a clotrimazole-only tablet.
  • To assess the therapeutic effectiveness of the combined therapy in treating various forms of vaginitis.

Main Methods:

  • A multicenter, double-blind, randomized controlled study was conducted.
  • 165 women diagnosed with vaginitis (Candida, bacterial vaginosis, T. vaginalis, or combinations) and without recent treatment were enrolled.
  • Participants were assigned to either the combined Clo-Met tablet or the clotrimazole-only tablet group.

Main Results:

  • The study enrolled 165 patients, with 84 in the Clo-Met group and 81 in the clotrimazole group.
