    Background:

    • Miniature liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCoS) displays require precise assembly processes.
    • Existing methods face challenges in controlling cell gap uniformity and integration.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To present a novel, integrated assembly process for LCoS displays.
    • To utilize photodefinable benzocyclobutene (BCB) resin for enhanced fabrication.

    Main Methods:

    • Spin coating to define the liquid crystal cell gap.
    • Photolithography for defining cell perimeter and adhesive spacers.
    • Thermocompression bonding for adhesion.

    • Achieved precise cell gap control (<2.5 microm) with high uniformity (+/-100 nm) using photodefined adhesive spacers.
    • Demonstrated compatibility with common liquid crystal alignment films.
    • Obtained a bonding shear strength of 22+/-3.2 MPa.

    • The method enables precise control over critical display parameters, improving uniformity and reliability.
    • This approach is suitable for both glass-on-glass and glass-on-silicon display assemblies.
