[Panoramic zonography in the diagnosis of TMJ fractures]
1Klinik und Poliklinik für Mund-Kiefer-Gesichtschirurgie der Universität Heidelberg.
Abstract:
The radiological diagnosis of fractures of the mandibular condyle may be quite difficult. In a study of 237 patients the value of panoramic zonography is evaluated. Advantages of the new method are orthoradial projection, examination in a supine position, and good visibility of the anatomical structures in the TMJ-S and TMJ-PA program. Radiation doses in conventional radiography are 40-60 times higher than in panoramic zonography. High resolution CT should be reserved for special indications.
