Transforming Trauma into Triumph: Advancing the Future of Collaboration For Periodontology and Pediatric Dental

Introduction:
Dental trauma in pediatric patients often results in complex clinical and psychological challenges. Root fractures in children necessitate innovative approaches for immediate treatment and long-term rehabilitation.
Case Description:
This case series presents two pediatric patients, aged 9 and 12, who sustained root fractures in their upper left central incisors (tooth 21) following accidents. Both cases involved tooth extraction, alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) with autologous dentin graft (ADG), and clinical hypnosis to manage anxiety during surgery. ADG was prepared using crushed and sterilized autologous dentin, leveraging its osteoinductive properties. Clinical hypnosis, customized to each child's preferences, provided a nonpharmacological method to alleviate procedural anxiety. Postoperative follow-ups were conducted at intervals of 1 week, 3 months, 1 year, and 2 years.
Discussion:
The ADG technique successfully maintained alveolar ridge dimensions, minimizing the need for future augmentation. Clinical and radiographic evaluations showed stable bone height and ridge preservation. The integration of clinical hypnosis significantly improved patient cooperation and comfort, supporting its use as a valuable tool in managing pediatric dental anxiety. These cases emphasize the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration between periodontics and pediatric dentistry for effective trauma management.
Conclusion:
The combination of ARP with ADG and clinical hypnosis demonstrates a patient-centered, innovative approach to pediatric dental trauma management. ADG provides a viable alternative to traditional grafting materials, while hypnosis enhances the overall treatment experience. This approach highlights the importance of addressing both clinical and psychological needs to optimize long-term outcomes.
