Evolution and functional diversity of jellyfish opsins

The evolution of animal vision involved early divergence of ciliary and rhabdomeric photoreceptor cells (PRCs) and opsins before the Cnidaria-Bilateria split. Jellyfish opsin analysis supports this ancient evolutionary origin.
