Abstract:
Parathyroidectomy (PTX) can control both primary and renal hyperparathyroidism (HPT) in almost all cases, however surgeons hesitate the operation for patients who belong to high risk group and have the possibility of severe complications, ie bilateral palsy of recurrent laryngeal nerves. Sometimes removal of parathyroid gland located ectopically especially in mediastinum may be invasive. And parathyroid carcinoma or parathyromatosis often can not be controlled by even surgical treatments. Calcimimetics may be indicated for these patients and remarkable decrease of high PTH level is expected. Calcimimetics is available in USA and European countries for patients with uncontrollable hypercalcemia by parathyroid carcinoma and in our country, the allowance of this medicine for parathyroid carcinoma is expected as soon as possible.
