Systemic venous segments interposition for pulmonary artery to aorta connection

Systemic veins were used to reconstruct pulmonary arteries in two patients with pulmonary atresia and ventricular septal defect. This innovative technique resulted in patent anastomoses without aneurysms, offering a promising surgical solution.

- Surgical anastomoses remained patent at three and four months post-operation.
- No evidence of aneurysmal dilatation was observed at follow-up.
Implications:
- Interposition of systemic veins offers a viable and effective method for pulmonary artery reconstruction in PA/VSD.
- This technique may improve long-term outcomes for patients with complex congenital heart defects.
- Further studies are warranted to evaluate the durability and broader applicability of this approach.
