Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the response of skin microcirculation to ischemia in younger and older adults.
  • To determine if functional changes in microcirculation occur in older skin.

Main Methods:

  • Laser Doppler flowmetry was used to measure skin perfusion on the forearms of younger and older subjects.
  • Ischemia was induced using controlled pressure (22.3 N and 44.5 N) applied to the skin surface for 3 minutes.
  • Post-ischemic reactive hyperemia was assessed by monitoring blood flow recovery after pressure release.
