Summary

Attention can distinguish between different types of visual motion, not just static versus dynamic. Object continuity, not just a broad static-dynamic split, guides visual search and attention.

  • This led to the hypothesis of a crude attentional division based on static versus dynamic properties.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if attention can make finer discriminations within the dynamic visual domain.
  • To test the robustness of the broad static-dynamic division hypothesis.
  • To explore the role of object continuity in visual selection.

  • Experiment 1: Participants searched for targets defined by blinking or motion among distractors with the other dynamic property.
