[A comparative evaluation of methods of inguinal hernioplasty]

Comparative study of the results of operative treatment for inguinal hernia was undertaken in two groups of patients. The first group of 104 patients was treated by plastic surgery primarily of the anterior wall of the inguinal canal. Among 108 operations, 22 (20.4 per cent) recurrences were detected. Seventy-seven patients of the second group underwent obligatory fixation of the posterior wall of the inguinal canal. One recurrence was observed among 82 operations. The technique of aponeurotic plastic surgery of the posterior inguinal canal wall is described as applicable in indirect inguinal hernias with a low inguinal aperture and lack of significant changes in the posterior wall of the inguinal canal.
