Abstract:
Professor Carl Ludwig (1816-1895) was one of the leading German and international physiologists in nineteenth century. On the background of Ludwig's scientific work, his attainments in the field of the development of new medical instruments and appliances--especially of the kymograph--are demonstrated. The co-operation with the scientist Carl Ludwig from Leipzig is one of the reasons why the medical industry of Saxony was able to take the lead beyond Europe in the last century.
