Abstract:
Remarkably effective photocleavage of plasmid DNA with pheophorbide a, as a visible light sensitizer, has been found for the first time. DNA is photocleaved even in the absence of oxygen. The novel oxygen-independent scission is ascribed to specific photodynamic function of the ring V in pheophorbide a.
