Background:

Duodenal cancer is a rare malignancy within the gastrointestinal tract.
This study reports on three cases treated between 1981 and 1990.

Observation:

The cases represented 0.27% of gastrointestinal cancer patients and 0.39% of intestinal cancer patients.
Histological types included two adenocarcinomas and one leiomyosarcoma.

Findings:

Analysis of literature data on symptoms, operative mortality, and survival rates was performed.
The study highlights the necessity for early diagnosis of duodenal cancer.

Implications:

Emphasizes the critical importance of prophylaxis and management of precancerous duodenal diseases.
Suggests that a competent approach to precancerous conditions can improve outcomes for duodenal cancer patients.
