Background:

A critical need exists for advanced training programs to develop top health leaders.
The University of North Carolina School of Public Health established the first executive doctoral program in health leadership in 2005.
The program offers a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in health administration.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe the goals, admissions, structure, content, and technology use of a new distance DrPH program in health leadership.
To present initial program evaluations and lessons learned from the first three years of operation.
To offer a model for other institutions considering similar doctoral-level distance education programs.

Main Methods:

Program description including goals, admissions, curriculum, and technology integration.
Presentation of initial program evaluation results.
Analysis of lessons learned during program planning and early implementation.

Main Results:

The Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in health administration program was successfully launched and operated.
