Summary

Fasciculations, involuntary muscle twitches, were observed in less than a quarter of patients with peripheral neuropathies. Electromyography (EMG) revealed more polyphasic potentials in those with fasciculations.

Background:

  • Peripheral neuropathies encompass a range of disorders affecting the peripheral nervous system.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the prevalence of lower limb fasciculations in patients with peripheral neuropathies.
  • To explore potential differences in electrophysiological findings between patients with and without observed fasciculations.

  • Clinical examination of 115 subjects with peripheral neuropathies.
  • Electromyography (EMG) to assess neuromuscular electrical activity.
