Summary

Small bowel intussusception caused by metastatic melanoma tumors requires surgical resection. Complete removal of visible tumors offers the best chance for long-term survival, though outcomes remain poor.

  • Multiple intraluminal metastatic tumors were present within the affected segment.
  • Histologic examination confirmed metastatic melanoma as the cause.

Findings:

  • Complete surgical resection of macroscopic tumors was performed.
  • Metastatic melanoma was the definitive histologic diagnosis.
  • The patient's long-term survival prognosis is poor.

Implications:

  • Complete surgical resection of visible tumors is the primary treatment for metastatic melanoma causing intussusception.
  • Further research is needed to improve long-term survival rates for such cases.
  • Multidisciplinary approaches may be beneficial for managing metastatic melanoma in the gastrointestinal tract.
